All government and non governmental institutions have been urged to honour employees who died during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The call was made yesterday by the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG), Jean de Dieu Mucyo.

He said this in a meeting that was aimed at evaluating activities that characterized this year’s commemoration period and also strategise for next year.

He said that CNLG has embarked on a sensitization campaign aimed at mobilizing all organizations to remember their fallen colleagues and encourage them to help vulnerable survivors and supporting the rehabilitation of memorial sites.

"Basing on the information obtained in our preliminary report for this year’s commemoration, the entire period was characterized by total peace in terms of security of survivors compared to previous years,” he said.

Mucyo added that 1,654 cases of trauma were registered among survivors during the three-month period of commemoration, 382 of them from Kigali City.

He specifically commended Kibagabaga Hospital, and some health centres for their selfless efforts in treating traumatized persons during the period.

The official, however, pointed out at some facilities like Muhima Hospital which at times  neglected trauma victims who has been referred there.
