RUSIZI - Bweyeye Sector residents in Rusizi district, yesterday, celebrated the accomplishment of a 32 kilometre road network which links the sector to Kamembe, Nyamasheke and the Kigali highway, through Nyungwe.
"We used to spend four hours on the bad road to reach Kamembe. The new road is a shortcut and we shall only spend about 50 minutes, to get to Kamembe town,” said
Faustin Habimana, a resident.
The residents appealed to authorities to also enlarge the newly constructed road which they said would help minimise accidents.
Though there is no tarmac, the road has been flattened and smoothened to enable vehicles access it with ease.
Residents also requested for transport companies like Onatracom to avail transport means.
"We only have two mini-buses, in the whole sector. Travelling becomes a problem for these two vehicles can only transport a few people even when they make return trips,” said another resident.
Clever Pierre Nsengimana, the Executive Secretary, said the new road would bring multiple benefits to Bweyeye.
"This road will remove this sector out of isolation. We shall be able to trade, purchase and associate with other sectors. We shall finally reap on the benefits of our neighbouring countries, DRC and Burundi,” he said.
The road was constructed by Rwanda Development Board RDB.
