MUSANZE - District authorities have been challenged to design a timeframe within which to execute the economic and development goals set under the VUP-Umurenge programme.

The Director General of the Common Development Fund (CDF), Leatitia Nkunda made the remarks during a one-day consultative meeting aimed at assessing work relations between CDF and the provincial, district and private contractors.

The overall VUP budget execution report presented at the meeting showed that all sectors were at 0% in utilising the money meant to help poor residents set up self-help projects, direct support stood at 23%, while public works used up 31%. 

The provincial Governor, Aime Bosenibamwe, called upon local leaders to put more efforts in implementing the programmes in order to meet at least 60% of the development programmes by the end of the year.

"Leaders should utilise the financial support to build sustainable projects, and engage local residents to fully participate in the community activities,’’ Bosenibamwe said.
 The meeting resolved that the district should prepare projects which will create visible impact in the sectors under VUP.

It was also recommended that authorities carry out a baseline survey to establish the changes in every family which received funds through Ubudehe before another phase to be funded by European Union could start.
