I’m pleased that the Access to Information Bill is about to go before the Cabinet. If this is passed it will be obligatory for public officials to release information upon request.

Personally, I think that it was high time that such a Bill was passed. We cannot expect to maintain transparency when the ordinary citizen doesn’t have the opportunity to access any information they want.

I must add that with the bill passed, the media fraternity will be in position to report on an informed basis and, probably, without having hassle of begging for the information. The move will also promote accountability.
