Imbuto Foundation, in conjunction with IntraHealth Rwanda, yesterday awarded 78 students from different Secondary Schools in the country for their outstanding stage performances aimed at promoting adolescent reproductive health care.

The students are from 13 schools in the districts of Nyarugenge, Gicumbi, Karongi, Rulindo, Rwamagana, Kicukiro and Huye who competed in poems, sketches, songs and Art/drawings among others, under the theme ‘Let us promote Reproductive Health Care and the use of youth friendly services.’

The awards worth over Rwf 8 million, included an English dictionary, watches, school bags, sports gear and Rwf 10, 000 to help students open up bank accounts and develop a culture of saving.

The six top schools in the field of drama are APACE in Nyarugenge, Kageyo and Kabira from Gicumbi and Butamwa and St. Michele also from Nyarugenge.

In the songs category, the best schools were St. Michelle, APACE, Butamwa all from Nyarugenge. The competition and award giving ceremony was held in Nyandungu and presided over by the State Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Dr. Mathias Harebamungu.

Harebamungu commended both Imbuto Foundation and IntraHealth for extending reproductive healthcare lectures in schools.

He urged the 250 students who turned up for the event to always share ideas on how they can live a better life.

"Know the things that hamper your education and having a good future,” Harebamungu noted. He called upon health centers to always take reproductive health care to schools. 

He urged students to share their acquired knowledge with other youth, and to always visit health centers for further advice on healthy living.

Radegonde Ndejuru, the Director General of Imbuto Foundation commended the health workers and schools heads for their effort in promoting adolescents’ reproductive health care through the youth.

Imbuto Foundation is an initiative of the First Lady, Mrs Jeannette Kagame. The foundation seeks to empower young Rwandans among other programs.
