The first East African Education Exhibition and Conference was opened in Kigali on Friday, and has attracted over 100 Institutions of learning in the East African Community.

The expo is aimed at bringing together various educational institutions in the region to showcase their
opportunities. This is a significant development and is a manifestation of the importance countries in the regional bloc attach to the role of education in development.

With major changes in its education system, Rwanda is on course to having a harmonized education system with most members of the EAC.  The fact that the Expo is being held in Rwanda, gives an opportunity for the community to learn about the education opportunities in the EAC and how to take advantage of them.

It is worth noting that education is one of the things that have historically united people in the region, as many travel across the region seeking education opportunities. Thus the Expo will help in furthering regional understanding and greater integration.

It is important that all stakeholders in the education sector fully participate in EAC education activities like the Expo and other initiatives, as it will go a long way in creating the necessary
conditions for a competitive education sector in the region that produces manpower, with the relevant professional and social skills for the region’s development.
