The Minister of Education, Dr. Charles Muligande, has urged students of the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), to incorporate the spirit of patriotism into their quest for knowledge.
He made the call yesterday during a public lecture on patriotism at the institution’s premises to mark Patriotism day.
"You should have love for your country, because patriotism is a basis for development,” Muligande said. The Minister reminded the students that Patriotism means loving your country and being willing to die for it.
"Whether you’re within or outside Rwanda, you should be in a position to fight for your country and not to betray it,” he said.
Muligande noted that whether one is poor or rich, one should always defend the country’s interests.
"You should not betray your country or turn a deaf ear to those who speak ill of it,” the education minister said.
The Commissioner General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana, on his part pointed out that patriotism should be part and parcel of every Rwandan.
"You should sacrifice yourself for your country in order to achieve social, political and economic transformation of our country,” the police chief said.
