King Faisal Hospital (KFH), this week, received the modular building compatible to the set up and functioning of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging System (MRI), a medical imaging technique used in Radiology to visualize detailed internal structure and limited function of the body.
King Faisal Hospital (KFH), this week, received the modular building compatible to the set up and functioning of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging System (MRI), a medical imaging technique used in Radiology to visualize detailed internal structure and limited function of the body.
The appropriate building is constructed with special materials that can support the magnetic dynamisms of the MRI machine system.
According to Dr. Juliet Mbabazi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of King Faisal Hospital, the government has invested about $3 million for the entire MRI project.
"We thank the government for its continuous commitment in helping our hospital to work towards attaining our vision to be a center of excellence in Rwanda and Africa,” she said.
Dr Mbabazi added that the country has not only invested in equipping the hospital with the MRI machine, it has provided training to hospital staff to perform MRI services.
The MRI machine provides much greater contrast between different soft tissues of the body than computed tomography scan (CT scan) does, making it especially useful in neurological (brain), musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and oncology (cancer) imaging.
The instalment of the MRI machine in Rwanda is part of the government’s health vision in order to improve the health sector, and most importantly, to reduce the budget allocated to refer Rwandans abroad for MRI.
