KIREHE/RWAMAGANA - The Ministry of Justice, on Tuesday, donated over 200 bicycles to chairpersons of mediation committees commonly known as Abunzi in the districts of Kirehe and Rwamagana.

Jeanne Horanimana, the officer in charge of Access to Justice Bureau in Rwamagana, said the support is meant to ease movement of members of the mediation committees.

"These are very important people…the bicycles are thus meant to ease their mobility in rural communities as they administer justice. We shall thus continue to give them all the assistance we can,” she said.

Protais Murayire, the Mayor of Kirehe said that the support will assist in speeding up justice at the lower levels.

"Bicycles may not be fast or good especially in hilly areas, but they can move easily in small rural paths. I am therefore sure the mediators will find them useful,” he said.
Bernadette Namakura, the chairperson of Nzinge Sector Mediation Committee, told The New Times that the move was timely.

Each Sector committee comprises of 12 residents who are persons of integrity and are acknowledged for their mediation skills in their respective communities.
