Cell and Sector Executive Secretaries in Musanze District have been instructed to ensure that their daily activities are centred on the performance contracts set by the district.

Speaking at a meeting aimed at reviewing progress on the implementation of performance contracts at all levels, the Mayor, Winifrida Mpembyemungu, reminded the local leaders of their responsibility.

"Even during the periods of transition, from one local leadership to the next, it is important for local leaders to understand that the task before them is primarily focussed on serving Rwandans, and that such an undertaking is for the wellbeing of the nation,’’ Mpembyemungu said.

The meeting looked at some of the challenges facing the local people. It brought to the attention of local authorities some of challenges in the administration of the 9-Year Basic Education programme.

The performance evaluation meeting resolved to boost terracing in an effort to control soil erosion and flooding from the Virunga Mountains.

As part of developing Ruhengeri town, local authorities emphasized the need for those building new structures to adhere to regulations as spelt out in the new guidelines. However local leaders emphasized the need to sensitize residents on the new guidelines.
