The Rwandan Institute of Administration and Management (RIAM) estimates that its intake for 2008 is expected to rise to 6000.

This was disclosed on Monday during a seminar organised by the Ministry of Public Services and Labour at Hotel Novotel Umubano.  "The number is expected to rise depending on the needs assessment of public and private institutions who wish to increase the capacity of their employees,” Marc Kabandana, the Director General of Riam, said.

A new training programme will be launched on Friday next week Kabandana said that the move is meant to equip employees with basic skills required to perform their duties with competence and enhance service delivery in the institutions they work for. 

He added that the capacity building mechanisms for the 2008 will be based on the Economic Development for Poverty Reduction Strategies (EDPRS). "Riam will provide Rwandans with entrepreneurial skills assisting them to create their own jobs thus reducing on the prevailing unemployment in the country,” he said.

He pointed out that more efforts would be put in employment promotion and capacity building mechanisms this year  Riam operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Public Service and Labour with the mandate of building capacity through training, research and consultancy in management and administration.

It supports the country’s development vision as well as other development effort including providing training and education in administration and management for public, private sectors and civil society and providing advisory and consultancy services in management and administration.
