HUYE - 40 students from Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare (GSOB) were last Sunday recognised for their outstanding performance in the second term’s examinations.

The best performers walked away with an assortment of items that included bags, mathematical sets, calculators and dictionaries.

During the ceremony, that was co-organized by the school authorities and the association of its former students; AAGSOB, students were urged to work harder if they are to succeed in their studies.

"You should concentrate for a brighter future. Hard work is one way of preparing who you will become in future,” noted Raphael Nuwumutima, the chairperson of AAGSOB.
Nuwumutima called upon students to be disciplined and act as role models in the society.

Beneficiaries commended the initiative to recognise best performers at the school, saying it will motivate them to work extra hard.

"The recognition of our efforts increases our drive to work even harder,” said Alice Juru, a senior 6 science student who scored 94% in the second term examinations.

Father Pierre Celestin Rwirangira, the school’s head teacher, noted that collaboration between the school and its former students will be strengthened in order to help current students benefit from the skills and experience of their predecessors.

"The Alumni of the school have been instrumental in helping us identify quality teachers,” Father Rwirangira said, adding: "We are looking at engaging them further into development activities of the school”.
