The Teacher Service Commission (TSC) has announced that 52,000 primary and secondary school teachers will be benefit from English teaching skills this year with effect from November 22 to December 24.

In an exclusive interview with The Sunday Times, TSC Executive Secretary, Emmanuel Muvunyi, said that the exercise will be conducted nationwide.

"900 training centres closer to both teachers and the schools have been identified in all the 30 districts.
He further explained that unlike last year’s training, teachers this year will be trained upon the basis of the level of teaching skills they have.

"We shall test these teachers to ensure that they are grouped according to their teaching capacity as this will enable progress in their teaching skills,” he said.

"The exercise will consider all teachers both in private and public schools.”

According to Muvunyi, teacher trainers will include nationals and those from the region. "So far we have about 900 trainers and I am sure we shall be able to have a sufficient number,” he said.

An English Language Training (ELT) manual that has been set in a Rwandan context and is currently being reviewed by the British Council will be used during the training.
