A renowned local painter, Collin Sekajugo, launched his first magazine ‘RWAndA - n - Art’ at a cocktail event held to mark the occasion on Thursday 23 September at Laico Umubano hotel. 

The inauguration attracted 15 painters including a renowned regional journalist and painter, David K. Musoke. Spicing up the occasion, their vibrant artworks drew crowds.

Several copies were distributed among the guests, enabling them to discover for themselves the rich assortment of vibrant artistic works splashed over the pages of the magazine.

‘RWAndA – n – Art’ magazine was produced by Collin, published by Ivuka Arts Centre and printed in Uganda.
The most expensive object of art on display was selling at $1,000 (about Rwf 600,000) and the cheapest at $200 (Rwf 120,000).

The event was attended by several personalities, including Alphonse Umulisa, the Director of the National Museums of Rwanda.
"I am humbled by the generosity of the magazine. There is such goodness in the world, such extraordinary works, happiness and reality told through art, said Teddy Davies, 34, an American tourist visiting Rwanda.

Displayed in the magazine are the names and addresses of artists and patrons who made the magazine successful.
The magazine allows readers to peer into the hobbies and occupation of some of the century’s talented artists. On flipping through the lustrous pages, one develops a desire to sample the delights of their work that can only be satisfied by actually experiencing or viewing these varied creations.

It also brings to life the dazzling array and diversity of artistic expression here in Rwanda.
Collin said that the magazine is aimed at promoting the culture of art in the country.

The curly haired artist seeks to assist disadvantaged creative artists by providing them with a forum for expression that would help them develop them into entrepreneurs.

Sekajugo – Biography

Born on October 14, 1980 in Uganda, Collin Sekajugo started practicing art while in primary school. During his high school days in Nairobi, the young Collin got acquainted with the contemporary art displayed on the streets and in galleries.

Though Collin was not able to attend a school of art, he was able to meet various professional artists in Nairobi, who inspired him and launched him into the business.

Today, Collin ranks among the prominent artists in the country and has represented Rwanda at both regional and international art exhibitions.

His art is about social conscience and healing. He raises awareness about issues within our disintegrating societies: from discrimination to segregation; from environmental change to isolation and from disintegration to integration.
The magazine is free of charge and can be obtained at different public venues, including hotels, travel agencies and at Ivuka Arts Centre, Kacyiru.
