Sector Executive Secretaries have been given a one month ultimatum to clear piles of National IDs that are lying in their offices.

This was revealed yesterday by the Minister of Local Government, James Musoni, at the end of a one-day meeting in which he met provincial governors and the Vice Mayor of Kigali City.

Before the August Presidential elections, it had been estimated that over 500,000 people had not yet received their IDs and yet they had registered.

Since then, the IDs have been lying at local administration offices. "We have instructed the Executive Secretaries to issue out all the IDs that are piling up at their offices and list out owners who have relocated,” said Musoni, adding that the remaining IDs will be taken back to the National ID Project for follow up.

According to the mister, the meeting also discussed other issues, among them being a follow up on the promotion of high levels of cleanliness in the whole country.
Last month President Kagame met local leaders and cleanliness was high on the agenda.

Speaking to the press, the Minister said that a lot has been done since the meeting and that committees to follow up on cleanliness have been set up at all levels.
