Editor,

With the 3.3 million Euros that RECO-RWASCO is set to receive from France, I’m seeing the vision of a rural Rwanda lit by millions of light bulbs being realised. As reported in The New Times yesterday, the money will be specifically for rural electrification.

As long as we have the vast majority of our populace living in rural Rwanda, we must be able to provide them with the facilities that urban dwellers take for granted, namely piped water and electricity.

With just these two things, I believe that rural Rwanda can blossom and make us, city slickers, envious of their standards of living. With electricity I see children reading books at night, mothers using sewing machines and fathers using milking machines to milk their cows.
