Amavubi coach going to inspect players in Belgium and France

AMAVUBI Stars head coach Sellas Tetteh jets out this evening to Belgium ahead of his tour of Europe on a scouting mission for Rwanda’s professional players, who can beef up his team for next month’s 2010 Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Benin.

Rwanda hosts the West African team on the weekend of October 8-10 at Amahoro national stadium in a group H clash where anything less than victory will be deemed a lost opportunity -  as far as Amavubi is concerned - regarding their hopes of qualifying for the finals which will be co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer, Jules Kalisa confirmed to Times Sport yesterday that Tetteh will jet out tonight aboard SN Brussels for a week-long scouting mission, which will also take him to France.

"He leaves tonight for Belgium. He’s going to look at Rwandan players based in Belgium and France. On Saturday, he will also be in position to watch a Ligue 1 match between Monaco and Lorient,” said Kalisa.

Kalisa noted, "Tetteh will be assisted by former Amavubi skipper Desire Mbonabucya in monitoring the players who can be of good use to the national team.”

Mbonabucya who led the Rwandan team to the 2004 Nations Cup finals in Tunis is a licensed FIFA player’s agent and has found a number of able Rwandan footballers who play professionally in Belgian, French, Swedish and Italian leagues, according to Ferwafa.

Apart from known players who play in Cyprus, Sweden, Oman and Finland, Tetteh is expected to watch different players namely; Kevin Monnet-Paquet (Lorient), Mannier Gilbert Muvunyi (Rennes) and the trio of Michel Rusabana, Jean Claude Uwamungu and Jabo Mutsinzi, all of whom play in the Belgium league as well as other Rwandan players across Europe.

Tetteh recently said that he will only summon players who can make a difference from the players who are already in camp.

"I will go and watch and advise them to work harder so as to earn a call to the Amavubi but otherwise I have faith in the team which is in camp at the moment,” said Tetteh.

The Ghanaian Fifa U-20 World Cuo winner says he’s fully focused on Amavubi’s next assignment and says that a win over Benin will revive Rwanda’s hopes of qualifying for the 2012 Africa Nations Cup.

Rwanda, drawn in Group H, got their qualification campaign off to a wobbly start with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Côte d’Ivoire.

Côte d’Ivoire top the group with three points, Burundi and Benin are second with a point each while Rwanda is at the bottom without a point.
