THE International Olympic Committee (IOC) has urged the local Olympic Committee (RNOC) to maintain principles of ethics and good governance so as to fulfill the Olympic Charter’s requirements.

The IOC NOC Relations Department Jerome Poivey, who was in company of Yousfi Yassine and Diack Thierno said yesterday at Milles Collines Hotel that maintaining the principles of ethics and good governance will help RNOC to disseminate the Olympic values so as to leave a positive legacy for the whole Olympic family, the local community and the youth of the world.

"The Olympic Congress approved the document named "Basic universal principles of good governance of the Olympic and Sports Movement” as a minimum standard,”

"These basic principles must be implemented by each entity of the Olympic Movement (including NOCs) and be respected in their daily operations, said Poivey.

Poivey further added that the legitimacy and autonomy of the Olympic Movement depends on upholding the highest standards of ethical behaviour and good governance.

Poivey also called upon members of the Olympic Movement to keep annual accounts in accordance with acknowledged standards of accounting, ensure they have an independent audit of verification of their accounts, adopt rules, norms and practices under which those who cannot comply with good governance may loose financial support or be sanctioned and adopt and implement a code of ethics based on the principles and rules of the IOC Code of Ethics.

His counterpart from Olympic Solidarity (OS), Yousfi Yassine briefed members of the Olympic family with a presentation and history of the Olympic Solidarity (OS) and programmes in favour of the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) that are under support by the Olympic Solidarity.

All 25-member federations of Rwanda Olympic Commitee attended the meeting.
