Muku opens up to the mag about his music talent, professional career and, how he balances his time in studio and in court.
Muku – Biography
Born in June 12, 1970, in Gasabo District, Muku is an artist, songwriter, record producer and a prosecutor.
In 1991, Muku went to Belgium where he studied law and returned in Rwanda in 2002. He is now a public prosecutor attached to Gasabo District.
Beginning his music career
Muku started singing from the Sunday school choir of St. Michael, Kigali but his talent improved when he joined school music competitions in Secondary. Thereafter, he started recording his songs.
He says his great inspirations were Impara and international music icons Bob Marley and Michael Jackson.
Muku says he does music for pleasure, but, he is a prosecutor by profession.
"I do music for pleasure and it doesn’t in any way affect my professionalism.”
"It’s a matter of organisation, when I’m in court or dealing with my clients, I’m very serious and when it comes to music, I am also dedicated.”
Despite his busy schedule as a public prosecutor, Muku says he gets time for his music fans.
What you didn’t know about Muku
He worked in Brussels for one year as an advocate before he returned in the country.
His hit track ‘Murekatete’ was inspired by a bet he had with his friend Murekatete who is now based in the US.
The ‘Murekatete’ hit was released in the fall of 2002, produced by Aron Niyitunga.
He hates people who don’t keep time and, those who do things unprofessionally.
His favourite dish is matooke and ugali. "I can eat matooke from January to January without complaining,” Muku says to emphasise his point.
He is a movie freak and, enjoys political and geographical films.
His happiest moment in life was at the Kassav’ concert at the closing ceremony of FESPAD 2010.
