KIGAL - In what is seen as a major reshuffle, the Rwanda National Police (RNP) has rotated all the District Police Units (DPU) in all provinces.

The rotation, the first of its kind since RNP was formed in 2000, saw all the DPUs in Western Province swap working stations with their colleagues in Northern Province.
The DPUs in Southern Province interchanged with those in Eastern Province

At the district level, Nyagatare and Ruhango units in the Eastern and Southern Province, respectively, were redeployed in the Western Province, while Rusizi and Nyamasheke units in the Western Province, both moved to the Southern Province.

However, all the units in the Central Region (Kigali City) were taken to Gishari Police Training School in Rwamagana for a refresher course. They were replaced by the Intervention Force I and II, Special Force and Alpha Mobile.
The Commissioner General of Police, Emmanuel Gasana said that the exercise was done to enforce discipline, effectiveness and efficiency of the force, and also give the officers refreshercourses.

"Training is the cornerstone to readiness and that’s why we are rotating them and at the same time giving them refresher training courses. The training will provide more knowledge, ability and skills hence the force’s effectiveness and competence,” Gasana said.

Gasana noted that the officers had also stayed long where they were deployed and added that there was a need to change them for better understanding and at the same time gaining more experience in their duties.

Formed on June 16, 2000, under the law No. 09/2000, the RNP was created out of three previous security institutions.
They included Gendarmerie National which was under the Ministry of Defence, the Communal Police, under the Ministry of Local Government and charge with administrative functions, and Judicial Police, which was under the Ministry of Justice.

RNP is under the Ministry of Internal Security.
