MBUYU Eric Gasana is yet to report to camp, according to one of the national team’s assistant coaches Eric Nshimiyimana.

The versatile defender, who missed Rwanda’s opening 2012 Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Ivory Coast, was recently drafted into Sellas Tetteh’s provisional 26-man team after fully recovering from a career threatening ankle injury

The player is expected to tighten up Amavubi’s spine which let in three goals against Ivory Coast’s Elephants two weeks ago.

However, to date he is yet to report for training.
"He is still in the DRC and his arrival has been delayed by flight connections but we hope that he will join us before mid next week,” Nshimiyimana said.

Rwanda currently lie at the bottom of Group H and need to win their October 9 qualifier against Benin to revive their hopes of qualifying for Africa’s premier football competition which will be jointly hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Amavubi have meanwhile suffered a setback following Kipson Atuhaire’s back injury. "He didn’t train yesterday but we hope it is not a long-term injury. He is being monitored by doctors,” Nshimiyimana added.

Ivory Coast top Group H with three points, Burundi and Benin are tied in second place with a point following their 1-all draw in Porto-Novo while Rwanda is bottom with zero points.

As Rwanda take on Benin, Ivory Coast, who won the Nations Cup in 1992, will look to make it two wins on the trot when they play Burundi in Bujumbura.
Rwanda’s only CAN appearance was back in 2004, under Rotamir Djukovic.
