I’m pleased that the Kigali City Council (KCC) and the National Forestry Authority (NAFA) are busy identifying the old trees to be cut down as a way of protecting the public. This timely move is probably a result of the falling tree that caused a fatal accident near the parliamentary buildings in Kimihurura.

It isn’t enough, however, just to cut down old trees that can be dangerous to human beings and property. I’m of the opinion that even ‘healthy’ trees ought to be maintained better.

The city council should prune them and not let them grow in such an unruly manner. It’s not enough to merely plant them; you have to make sure that they are as beautiful as they can be.
