KIGALI - The World Bank Vice President in charge of operations policy and country services, Joachim Von Amsberg, has said that Rwanda has healthy strategies with regard to working with its development partners.

Amsberg made the remarks on Saturday, after meeting President Paul Kagame at Urugwiro Village. The Bank’s Vice President was in the country for a three-day working visit to witness the country’s development progress.

Addressing the Press after meeting President Kagame, Amsberg said that he was impressed by what he found on the ground. He visited several projects funded by the Bank.
"I have seen a country that is growing rapidly and a country that has made progress on social indicators,” Amsberg said.

"I came here to congratulate the President for the remarkable achievements Rwanda has made and to offer to continue our support to Rwanda’s development agenda.”
The World Bank official singled out the energy projects as among those that highly impressed him.

Amsberg said; "We are working in a very close partnership with the government of Rwanda. We work in such a way that Rwanda signifies how much and what kind of support it needs from development partners.”

He added that Rwanda’s system of working with development partners is healthy. "The country and the government leads and we (The Bank) are willing to provide support to those programs which are of priority to the country,” he said.

He also stressed that; "We are also increasingly using the country’s own expenditure systems for our support rather than focusing on small and separate projects. Normally the tendency and desire of the government is to seek our support in their priority programs and we are pleased with that type of operation.”
