Rwanda’s football governing body(Frewafa) has announced that a budget of Rwf8,140,773,630 will be spent during the 2023 fiscal year.

The budget was approved during the extraordinary general assembly held Saturday, January, 22 at Lemigo Hotel.

The largest portion of the budget, 36.3 per cent, will be used in Ferwafa’s daily operations. The federation plans to use part of the budget in women’s football as well as improving the welfare of referees where their bonuses will increase by 50 per cent.

Meanwhile, 30.7 percent of the budget will be spent on preparation of national teams in all categories while the remaining 33 per cent of the budget will be spent of football infrastructures including Ferwafa accommodation facility as well as construction of football pitches in Rusizi, Gicumbi and Rutsiro Districts.

The construction activities of football grounds on the three sites would have started last year but World football governing body (FIFA) blocked the funds until Ferwafa completes the construction of its stalled hotel.

"FIFA was supposed to give us money last year but didn’t. They told us that if we do not finish the works on our hotel that has been under construction for seven years, then it will be difficult for us to get the money for other projects,” Ferwafa president Olivier Nizeyimana explained.

Now that the hotel is complete, Nizeyimana said, we hope that FIFA gives us the money this year and we will immediately start the activities.
