PLANS to establish a career advisory council in every institution of learning in the country are underway, an official has revealed.

Rosemary Sleith, the director for the Centre for National Career Advisory Services under Rwanda Development Board, revealed that the strategic plan for the council is already done and only awaiting approval by the Cabinet.

"The council will basically be ensuring students from primary schools to higher institutions of learning become aware of their careers,” Sleith told the press during Careers’ Day at the School of Finance and Banking on Wednesday.

The event brought together employers from various companies to advise students on courses required in the country’s labour market and how they can make use of the courses they undertake.

Sleith revealed that the strategic plan will help institutions raise standards of service hence hence strengthening the skills’ gap.

According to research by Human Resources and Institutional Capacity Development Agency, there is still a 70 percent gap of the required skills in the country’s labour market.
