RWAMAGANA - Two truck drivers, who attempted to bribe a traffic police officer with Rwf2000, were arrested yesterday at the Rwamagana-Kigali Highway.

Francios Mushumba and Jean d’Amour Itangishaka, both residents of Rwamagana, stopped their Fuso trucks after Sergeant Ananias of the traffic police office signalled them to stop.

Sgt Ananias said he stopped the trucks for routine check-up, but before he could inspect the vehicles, the men dished out Rfw 1000 each.

Upon handing the money to the police officer, Ananias arrested the two and took them to Rwamagana police station.

Commenting on the arrest, Police spokesman Superintendent Eric Kayiranga said that corruption has no room in the country.

He told the public to forget trying to bribe the police because they will always land in trouble at some point.

"We are for zero tolerance on corruption in the country. So, the two men caught trying to bribe the police officer will be punished according to the existing law on corruption.”
