Soldier arrested for killing sister, brother-in-law

KIGALI - A soldier who allegedly shot and killed his sister and the brother-in-law yesterday morning in Kimisagara Sector, in Kigali has been arrested.

Pte Theogene Sinumvayabo, who was attached to the 9th Battalion, was put into custody by the Military Police.

According to Army spokesperson, Jules Rutaremara, the soldier gave some unknown amount of money to his sister and the husband who were operating a bar in Kimisagara to buy him a house and they remained with Rwf 100,000.
"Sinumvayabo has been asking the duo to refund his money but they kept a deaf ear until yesterday when he attacked them at their home at around 2 AM,” he said.

Rutaremara added that after being arrested Sinumvayabo said that before killing his sister and the brother-in-law they had hired people who beat him up prompting him to go back to the Army unit and bring a gun which he used to kill them.

He added that Sinumvayabo reached his sister and the husband’s home and he knocked at the door but they refused to led him in.. He decided to stay by the door until morning. When their child opened the door,he immediately entered shooting and killing the two.
