As nations aim higher to develop and probably improve on their social economic development, individuals also look for ways of improving on their looks, and enhancing their health.

Just like hair and skin, experts say that nails are among the most delicate parts of the body that can lead to health problems if they are not well catered for. Nails contain keratin, a tough fibrous protein substance.

Their strength comes from the presence of sulphur in amino acids binding the keratin together. Fats and water molecules lie between the layers of keratin and make nails shiny and pliable.

In this case, skin specialists say that the flexible strip seals off the finger nail, keeping out substances like bacteria that can harm one’s health.

How to take good care of your nails

Like the rest of our bodies, the strength of nails is genetically determined. One has to clean them to avoid the harmful bacteria that hide inside the nails.

Jackie of New Image Salon says that by taking good care of nails, one has to at least groom them weekly, moisturising them daily and care properly for the cuticles.

"While attractive nails on hands and feet are just that, the health and integrity of your skin is something  we take very seriously,” says Chantelle Mutoni, of City Saloon.”

Your skin is your barrier against germs. Proper care, in salons and even at your home, will help to keep your skin and health intact.

Sandra Batamuriza wonders whether it’s of her making or even other people have the same feeling to visit a salon for manicure and pedicure on a regular basis.

Batamuriza says that when her nails are painted, she feels pretty good and gets a better posture of feeling more feminine.

When you feel good about yourself, when you do something as simple as painting your nails, it tells that you care for your body and value other people’s bodies too.

"I do care about myself and do the best to look good. I'm worth it,” said Sylvia Uwera, a client found in one of the salons.

Mary is a styled mother who says that she just applied the most beautiful colour called "Midnight in Moscow". She loved it and little did she know that it would make her look cherished and styled.

Nails need to be regarded as the most hygienic part of the body. Proper care and cleaning can safeguard one’s health. They are considered as the highest carriers of germs that cause diarrhoea and other infectious diseases.
