NYAMASHEKE — Police in Nyamasheke district are holding a man who allegedly killed his daughter. Amos Ngezahayo, 42, a resident of Rugoti community settlement, Nyakabingo cell, Macuba sector allegedly killed his first born-child, Emirence Nyirabaziki ,16, using a club, which he hit in her head on Wednesday.

Security sources said that Ngezahayo killed his daughter to conceal a pregnancy he had caused after raping her. The sources said he accused the deceased and her mother Grace Murerwa, of reporting the pregnancy to police against his request to conceal the affair, which residents describe as ‘unspeakable.’

"According to our investigations it is plausible that Ngezehayo may have killed his daughter, because he had impregnated her. He was guilty that the daughter and her mother would report him to the police,” Said Kanjongo police commander, AIP Christopher Murwanashyaka.

While at the police station, Ngezahayo told The New Times that he acknowledged killing his daughter but said, he acted under the influence of a local brew commonly known as Ruyazimpanga.

"Yes it’s true I murdered my daughter (Nyirabaziki) unintentionally, I did it under the influence of Ruyazimpanga. I ask for forgiveness for my action,” Ngezahayo said.

However, in another twist, he added that he had earlier unsuccessfully attempted to kill the deceased and her mother [Murerwa] using Acid which he later poured in their food. Nyirabaziki reportedly died with seven- month’s pregnancy.
