KIGALI City Council (KCC) has razed down its former premises in Nyarugenge District to pave way for the construction of a modern complex. When The New Times visited the site yesterday, construction workers were busy demolishing the buildings as office equipment was being heaped outside.

The former premises housed among others, the offices of Kigali City community radio and the Belgian Technical Corporation (CTB) Initiative that helps the city in the implementation of its health programmes.
KCC Director General, Aimable Gasana Ndakengerwa, said in an interview that the move was adopted as part of implementation of the city master plan.
"KCC is committed to implementing the master plan. We therefore decided not to be left behind but rather to be exemplary,” Ndakengerwa said.
The construction of the new six-storey KCC structure to be known as ‘Kigali City Hall’ will start in November and it will take 18 months to complete at a cost of Rwf 6bn.
Meanwhile, KCC is advertising its current premises, formerly the Foreign Affairs Ministry to give way for development of the area.
Other premises that are up for lease are the former tourism offices (ORTPN) and the current ORINFOR premises, both in central Kigali City.
Projects worth Rwf 143 bn have so far been approved by a construction officer in Kigali City.
They include a commercial complex to be built at the former Post Office and a commercial plaza to be built opposite Rwanda Commercial Bank (BCR) headquarters, both in Nyarugenge District.
