Aquasan, one of the rotational moulding companies in the country has said that it is ready to supply households in Rwanda with both sanitary and water catchment facilities in order to improve health conditions.

According to Rakesh Vikram Singh, General Manager of Aquasan, a subsidiary of Aquasantec Group that has a presence in seven countries in Africa; the company has so far launched the project in more than four districts in the country.

"We are targeting a massive population in order to enable the users to safely and effectively manage and recycle their own waste, more particularly with regard to mobile toilets,” said Singh.

UNICEF as the funding agency for this project has supplied more than 5,000 water and sanitary solutions in the districts of Rubavu, Musanze, Nyabihu and Burera.

"All solutions are designed to be low-cost, easy to install, user-friendly and sustainable. Our company boasts a full range of water and sanitation products that cover a wide range of applications such as access to water as well as water storage and treatment”, added Singh

In the last three years, the company has installed over 10,000 toilets and tanks in various locations in East Africa, implementing these projects on behalf of major NGOs and UN agencies.

Mobilets have urine diversion and soak to take in the urine and shower water. The pit will be 3 metres deep with the possibility of being emptied very rapidly in roughly one hour, replacing the urine within the next one hour. The urine can be mixed with water in order to produce fertilizers for rural farmers.

"Our objective is to provide farmers with training in farming techniques; as well as the substantial difference and ensuing benefits of adapting drip irrigation using urine as a fertilizer that is free of charge,” explained Singh.
