RWANDA’S cultural troupe, Urukerereza on Monday Sept 6, thrilled thousands who had gathered at Amahoro stadium for President Paul Kagame’s inauguration ceremony.

Thousands of Rwandans celebrated in song and dance across the country as President Kagame was sworn-in.

Presidents and dignitaries from countries all over were treated to Rwanda’s acclaimed traditional dances. 

After his overwhelming victory on August 9, with a 93.08 percent win, President Kagame took the oath of office at 10:50 a.m, ushering in another seven-year-term. He was handed the instruments of office - the Constitution, National Flag and Coat of Arms.

Shouts of "Our President, Our pride” echoed from the mammoth crowds gathered both inside and outside the stadium.

The glitzy and distinguished guests included presidents and first ladies, as well as other high-ranking dignitaries including religious leaders, American evangelist Rick Warren, and prominent Rwandan personalities. The performance by the National ballet and a children’s troupe left the audience thrilled.

"As a Rwandan, I am very happy to see President Kagame rule the country again,” said Amos Ntare, a university student at the School of Finance and Banking.

The National Television (RTV) provided live broadcast throughout the ceremony.

Reports from up-country stated that dozens of cows, goats and chicken were slaughtered across the country, as rural communities celebrated the inauguration.
