As  we  celebrate the memorable  inauguration of President Paul Kagame, we wish him the greatest success. Under his leadership, the next seven years will be a monumental and exciting experience for the Rwandan people, as they build on the progress the country has registered.

On an annual basis, there are the performance contracts where the local leaders outline their targets for the year and, so far, each evaluation has shown that the living standards of Rwandans are on the rise.

But, on a larger perspective, there are the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) whose targets are to be achieved by 2015. With approximately five years to go, Rwanda is among the few countries across the globe that have registered remarkable progress in achieving the MDGs and is on track to beat the deadline.

And, looking even further, there is the Vision 2020, where Rwanda is aiming to become a middle income country within the next ten years. 

These targets are related and by looking at the track record of the RPF leadership, over the last seven years, under which the country has progressed tremendously, there is little doubt they are achievable.

The beneficiaries of these goals are the Rwandan people themselves. It, therefore, should be each and everyone’s responsibility to work towards achieving them.

With a focused government and dedicated leadership in place, the efforts of a hard working citizenry will enable the country attain the clearly stipulated goals.
