HUYE - There were scenes of wild celebration at Huye Football Stadium as residents of villages in Kabutare Cell gathered to follow the swearing-in of President Paul Kagame on television screens installed at the stadium.

The President’s Oath of Office was greeted with thunderous applause from residents and students from secondary schools in the Cell.

"This is victory for we Rwandans,” said Jean Marie Murenzi, a resident of Bukinanyana village

 "We have proved sceptics wrong by holding successful elections which has culminated into this historic swearing-in ceremony”.

Residents refused to be outdone by entertainment that was being streamed live from Amahoro stadium, the venue of the swearing-in ceremony, on Rwanda Television,.

Organisers allowed time for local dance troupes to entertain residents with songs and dances befitting the occasion.

Ngoma Sector executive secretary, Pascal Sahunda, commended the role of the local population in the Presidential polls. He said that the spirit of teamwork should continue in other development programmes.

"This is an opportunity to thank residents for exercising their civic duty of electing their leaders, and most importantly, the election of the President of the Republic.

The peaceful environment in which the elections were held is a testimony that Rwandans know what they want,” said Sahunda in an interview after the ceremony.

He added that now the focus should be on working together with the President to ensure that his election pledges are fulfilled.

"We shall insist on maintaining high levels of cleanliness in the town as well as in homesteads. The other priority for us is improving the livelihood of residents; this will be done by attracting investment,” he said.

On the eve of the swearing-in ceremony, women in the district under the patronage of the National Women’s Council held an all-night victory celebration.
