Mukwano Group of Companies has released a new product on the market in Rwanda. Sunseed Premium Sunflower Oil is a cooking oil that is made from sunflowers grown in Uganda.

Speaking to The New Times, Abdul Kader Sangam, the chief sales and marketing manager at Mukwano, said he expected the new product to be in high demand in Rwanda.

"This is a premium product made from our own oils unlike other cooking oils which are imported. We are sure people will like it because its cholesterol free and of high quality," Sangam said.

Mukwano products, which include cooking fats, cooking oils, plastics, confectionery, toiletries, detergents and beauty products are household names in Rwanda.

"Rwanda is a big export market for us and traditionally all our products are liked there," he added.

"With Rwanda joining the East African community we are hoping for improved trade relations," Sangam explained.

Uganda currently pays six per cent duty on exported goods. If regional trade integration takes root in July this year better terms of trade between Rwanda and Uganda are expected.
