THE Confederation of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) has sent a congratulatory message to President Paul Kagame upon his re-election as President of the Rwanda.
Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye said in a statement, "The 11-member Countries of Cecafa dedicate their loyalty to President Kagame for his steadfastness and focus leadership which has enabled Rwanda to stand boldly among other Nations,”
"We congratulate President Kagame for garnering 93 percent of the votes during the polls last month and believe his comprehensive victory is a testimony that the majority of the Rwandese understands their leader better,”
Musonye added that Rwanda under President Kagame has evolved over the past 16 years and for a country that went through genocide to change in a decade need committed and strong leadership which the President has provided.
"We urge the people of Rwanda and few disgruntled voices in the Diaspora to come back to Rwanda and join President Kagame to continue with the heavy task of re-building the nation,”
"As Cecafa, we shall continue to appreciate the good work President Kagame has done for Rwanda in particular and the region in general and we shall continue to stand boldly behind him.”
"The entire Cecafa family wishes President Kagame success on the inauguration ceremony and wish him God’s wisdom to continue leading the nation in the next seven years, "said Musonye.
Since 2002, Kagame has been pivotal in the development of football in the region with his annual sponsorship worth $60.000 as cash prize for winners in the Cecafa/Kagame club championship.
