HUYE and MUHANGA - District employees have reiterated their commitment to deliver on their performance contracts by focusing on better service delivery.

The vow was made on Tuesday during a swearing-in ceremony of civil servants in Huye and Muhanga districts.

The Huye Mayor, Francois Uhagaze reminded the employees of the importance of the oath. He observed that by swearing to uphold their contracts, the employees had committed themselves to work harder.

"You have taken personal responsibilities to deliver good service in your areas of work, this oath should spur you to work even harder because it is on this basis that you will be evaluated,” said the Mayor.

Huye District was ranked among the worst performing in a recent national evaluation of performance contracts, and according to the Mayor, more will be required from district staff to improve.

"We are going to insist on proper hygiene in homes and public places, but for this to happen, we the leaders have to lead the way and we have to set examples”.

The Mayor disclosed that all district employees will be required to conduct field visits at sector level to sensitise local residents on important government programmes.

"The oath is a reminder to us that we have to deliver on our targets; swearing as individuals before the district executive committee puts a lot of responsibility on the employees. It is a reminder that we will be held accountable for what we do while executing our work,” said Paulin Mutemberezi, the District Director of Finance and Administration.

In Muhanga District, the chairman of the District Advisory Council (DAC), François- Xavier Mbabazi, urged heads of departments, sector leaders, and district employees to honour their obligations in serving residents.

"The oaths should be taken seriously. It is up to us to reflect on the responsibility entrusted to us by the community,” Mbabazi said.
