The Senate will at the end of this week officially launch the first ever report on the issue of political space in the country.

The report entitled "Political Pluralism and Power Sharing in Rwanda” is a result of research commissioned by the Senate and complied by a group of Professors from both Rwanda and abroad.

The 312-page report digs deep into the perceptions of Rwandans on leadership, political parties and general politics.

Parliamentary Director General for Communication and Outreach, Augustin Habimana, revealed that the official launch of the report would bring several experts from the region and beyond to conduct discussions on various issues raised in the report.

"We will be honoured with the presence of Nils de Dardel and Caesar Handa from Switzerland and Kenya respectively, and both have been keen followers of Rwanda’s progress and politics for the last decade,” he said
Handa is the Chief Executive of Strategic Research and was contracted by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) to monitor the media coverage given to the main political parties in Kenya in the run-up to the December 27 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The report, for example, tackles power sharing which 86 percent of Rwandans think is being implemented while nine percent are dissatisfied and four percent chose to refrain from sharing their opinion.

Professor Shyaka Anastase will officially present the findings of the report. Shyaka is a prominent researcher and is also the Executive Secretary of Rwanda Governance Advisory Council (RGAC). 

Senators Wellars Gasamagera and Joseph Karemera, both involved in the research, will facilitate the discussions.
