Innocent Rudasingwa grew up in church and started singing with the worship team at a young age. With this background, he decided to embark on a music career in March this year, doing Gakondo style which he says he is more comfortable with.
The singer so far has three songs; ‘Umwiza’, ‘Mwami wa komeretse’, and ‘Rurakarama’, which was recently released. Even though he mostly a Gakondo artiste, the singer says he also does R&B and afro-beat.
Inspired by a verse in the Bible, he says he read about love and how God is love, and that brought about the idea of ‘Rurakarama’.
"I kept on thinking about how love connects two people and that made me brainstorm and come up with this love song,” he says.
"I want to focus mostly on Gakondo music, however, that might change with time because I can as well do R&B and afro-beat. Music is my passion and as a Rwandan I want to be part of uplifting and taking Gakondo music to an international level. If Nigerians can make it so can Rwandans, as we have such beautiful and rich traditional music,” he adds.
The singer says it is up to Rwandan artistes to attract other musicians elsewhere to actually want to make our kind of music because it has worked for some African countries.
His wish is to make music that can be instantly identified as Rwandan, and have a wide audience from around the world, not just locally.
"So far the feedback I get from people who have listened to these three songs is great and very encouraging. I hope to get more feedback from people as my music spreads and reaches many Rwandans,” Rudasingwa says.
Besides singing, Rudasingwa is also a guitarist and pianist.
