Local leaders who were sworn-in yesterday in several districts of the country pledged to double their efforts in promoting better service delivery in their respective areas of service.

In Musanze District, Mayor Winifrida Mpembyemungu, challenged employees at all levels to consider the swearing in ceremony as the start of a new era, requiring them to put in more efforts in their work.

"This in principle symbolizes a contract, which should be respected and in so doing, everyone is required to set up their own performance targets that should be accomplished within a set    timeframe,’’ Mpembyemungu said.

The authorities were also tasked to promote sanitation within homes, schools and health centres.
The district pledged to maintain control of soil erosion by building terraces and productively using them for agriculture development.

In Nyagatare district, the first to take the oath was the District Executive Secretary, Mary Kantengwa, followed by other district officials, sector executive secretaries and cell executive secretaries.

Emmanuel Murenzi, the Karangazi Sector Executive Secretary, who spoke on behalf of other local leaders, vowed to work hard and promote team spirit to develop the district.

"On behalf of my colleagues, we vow to double our efforts and develop our district to the highest level,” he said.
"We request your full participation in helping us achieve our development goals, including facilitation in our daily activities”.

At the function, Nyagatare Mayor, Fred Atuhe Sabiti, assured the team of the district’s full support.
In Karongi, the leadership of the Western Province promised to jointly work together as a team to develop the region.
The provincial Governor Kabahizi, presided over the swearing in ceremony of about

11 officials at provincial level.

Those who were sworn in included the provincial Executive Secretary, Paul Jabo, personal assistant to the Governor, Laurent Nsengiyumva, the Human Resource Manager, Celine
Mukayisenga, the regional Auditor, Innocent Mugabe, and the Public Relations Officer, Innocent Nsengiyumva, among others.

Shortly after the function, Kabahizi challenged them all to "practice what they preach.”

"As government officials, you should lead by example and abide by the oath you have just taken,” Kabahizi said.

The swearing in of all civil servants is a new directive by the Public Service Ministry aimed at improving service delivery in the civil service.
