GATSIBO — The Fund for Genocide Survivors [FARG], on Tuesday donated 210 mattresses and other scholastic materials to several Schools in Gatsibo.

John Gatete ,the in charge of FARG, vulnerable groups and disaster, told The New Times on Tuesday, that the materials were meant for Genocide Survivor’s students. There are1, 089 students sponsored by FARG in the district, without those who are yet to join in senior one and four.

"We gave out the mattresses according to the number of students in each school and so far most schools have collected them from the district headquarters," said Gatete.

He said unlike the previous year, when students got their facilities in the late mid term, this time students are lucky to have got them at the beginning of first term; to help them start the year with the necessary materials.

"This time students have got their facilitation early, we don’t want them to face interruptions," Gatete said.

The items come a week after the first term opened with a good number of new enrolled students sponsored by FARG lacking facilities like mattresses.

A member of staff at Gabiro High School, Caroline Mbabazi had earlier said that the school has 127 FARG students but they had so far received facilities for 26.

The school has received 25 mattresses, 900 books, and 2000 pens which will be distributed to the students, she said.

Sources at several schools say many FARG students have always shared beds due to their enormous numbers and insufficient materials from the organisation.
