A woman who experienced labour pains at the polling station during the presidential elections, and delivered minutes after reaching Kinigi Health Centre, has been rewarded for her courage.

Narrating her experience, Beatrice Utamuliza said that her prayers were answered after having managed to cast her vote for President Paul Kagame and later went on to produce a baby girl.

An RPF delegation, led by the Musanze district chairperson, Winifrida Mpembyemungu, visited the happy couple at their home in Butorwa cell, in Kinigi Sector, and rewarded them with an exotic cow and an assortment of household goods.

"We woke up at 4 am, to go to the polling station where we waited for the polling stations to open”  she said. "Then I started to feel labour pains.’’ 

Utamuliza said that when she got into the voting room the labour pains intensified; she quickly cast her vote and was rushed to Kinigi health centre, by a vehicle hired by the Electoral Commission. She delivered minutes after getting to the health centre.

Her husband, Claude Ntirenganya, revealed that the couple named their baby Sezerano Pauline Mukakagame, as a testimony for having managed to vote for President Kagame who she felt deserved her vote.

"We prayed days before that God enables her to cast her vote for President Kagame,’’ Ntirenganya said.

Residents from Butorwa Village, joined RPF members to celebrate the birth of the child at a colourful traditional ‘Guhemba’ ceremony which was marked by drinks, food, song and dance.
