KIGALI Basketball Club (KBC) made their title ambitions clear after Saturday’s close 56-55 victory over reigning champions APR.

The league debutants did what true champions do – not buckle under pressure while making the most of every scoring opportunity.

APR started well and there was little surprise when they took the first quarter 20-13. The second quarter ended in a draw to maintain the indomitable lions’ seven-point lead at half time.

After the break, KBC recovered snaring the third and fourth quarters; 17-11 and 13-11 to eventually win the contest and secure home and away victories over the Cliff Owuor’s side which is struggling to feel the void left by Karim Nkusi, Kami Kabange and Mike Buzangu.

After the win, KBC Coach Pierre Gategabondo roared, "We mean business. We have proved to everyone that the first leg win was no fluke.”

"The boys deserve a round of applause. They played their hearts out and kept going until the last second,” he added.

The result was partly overshadowed by an incident between KBC point guard Patrick Djunga and APR’ s shooting guard Aboubacar Barame.

APR’s point guard Blaise Nikobahoze top scored with 15points. Else where, CSK beat Espoir 67-62 while National University of Rwanda (NUR) secured a 78-74 victory over Rusizi.
