KIBUNGO — Police in Kibungo is investigating a case in which a group of eight juveniles allegedly gang-raped an underage girl.

According to the girl’s mother Rose Kabanyana, her daughter only identified as Annie, 7, is said to have been raped on Monday by fellow pupils of Kibungo Primary School, aged between 7-12 years.

The parents of the boys in an exchange of words with Kabanyana appealed to police to desist from arresting the children, saying all the children acted out of ignorance, an excuse Kabanyana refused, insisting police should go ahead and arrest the children.

One of the boys’ parents Joy Kabana said that her son acted on peer influence because he has always been humble.

"I won’t forgive you unless medical examination reveals that there was no harm caused,” said Kabanyana.

Police took the child to Gahini Hospital for medical examination, which confirmed there was penetration. However, sources said the case was controversial because all the children involved are juveniles.
