GICUMBI - Employees of the electricity and water utility RECO-RWASCO in Gicumbi District, Friday installed water and electricity in two homes of genocide survivors of Nyarutarama Cell and also donated an assortment of food stuff.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Manager of RECO-RWASCO in Gicumbi, Gilbert Rubayita, said the electricity, water and food donations were initiatives of RECO$-RWASCO employees.
"The 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi was committed by Rwandans against their fellow citizens, which is why our staff contributed from their own resources to avail electricity, water and food stuff to Genocide survivors of this area,” he said.
"It is a humanitarian gesture enshrined in the Rwandan culture, which requires people to assist those in difficult situations.”
One of the beneficiaries, Eugenie Mukashema, hailed the organisation for the gesture and called upon others to emulate their example.
"I am extremely happy to receive these donations. It shows that though my children and husband perished during the Genocide, RECO-RWASCO have shown that they are part of my family,” she said.
