NYARUGURU - Gahotora Primary School in Nyaruguru District, has inaugurated a nine classroom block, following the disastrous storm that demolished the school buildings in December 2009.

The classrooms worth Rwf65m, commissioned last Friday, were jointly funded by the district and Action Aid, an international NGO.

Nyaruguru Mayor, Felix Sibomana, urged residents to develop a culture of addressing their challenges instead of waiting for aid.

"We do not need to wait for sponsors to solve our problems because we are able. Let’s show our commitment. We are the strength of the country, so let us join hands to build more classrooms,” he said.

Francis Karake, the impact assessment manager at Action Aid, in an interview told The New Times that their contribution was aimed at improving education.
He asked the beneficiaries to put to good use the classrooms.

Alain Laurent Kizima, a parents’ representative, said he would reach out to the community for their support to build more classrooms.

Most parents and teachers stated that there was dire need for more classrooms and appealed to donors and the district for more support to replace the existing dilapidated blocks.

Gahotora Primary School was built in 1945. It has 1328 students and 21 teachers.
