HUYE -15 volunteers from Belgium and Germany are currently participating in the construction of a house that will serve as a maternity home at Matyazo Health Centre in Huye District.

The building that is estimated to cost Rwf33.5m will be completed in the first half of next year according to information from the health centre.

The volunteers, under Bouworde Group, have been in the country for the last two months and have also donated Euros 4,000 (nearly 3m Rwf) for the completion of the project. The rest of the funding will come from other volunteers grouped under IMPORE project.

"We are glad to have contributed to something that will improve health services in this country,” said Matthias Vanheerentals, one of the volunteers.

The management of the health centre commended the initiative and noted that it would help them address the question of limited infrastructure.

"We have a serious problem of infrastructure yet patients increase day to day. Once this house is completed, it will help solve the issue,” said Sister Anne-Marie Mujawamariya, the Director of Matyazo Health Centre.
