THE national men’s rugby team-the Silverbacks yesterday fought back from two defeats against Blak blad and Nakuru to thrash Kenyan side Webuye 33-0 and salvage a chance of playing in this year’s Prinsloo Sevens Plate Cup quarterfinals.

Silverbacks got off to a rough start after they were swept aside by an organized Blak blad side 33-0.

And although scrum-half Lucien Bikamba and Kevin Mbarushimana managed to score a try and conversion respectively, it did not stop the national side from losing its second match against Nakuru 21-7.

The team however made amends with a crashing 33-0 win over Webuye in the day’s final game.

Vincent Kamali (Center), Ignace Nsanzimana (winger), Moise Habumugisha (scrum half) and Oliver Uwamahoro scored the tries while Kevin Makmot (center forward) made the conversions.

Silverbacks’ stand in coach Camble Gikuua told Times Sport that his team suffered under the weight of expectation in the first two matches.

"The players set themselves very high standards which led them to making a number of costly errors but against Webuye, I told them to go out and enjoy the game and it paid off,” Gikuua noted.
