The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has awarded trophies to the best two districts and five sectors from Northern Rwanda for their performance in the Presidential elections.

The NEC considered the level of voter turnout and civic education portrayed in having less invalid votes.
Musanze emerged the best in registering a high voter turnout with 98.20%, while Gakenke district was awarded for having had only 1% of the invalid votes.

Addressing local leaders and electoral agents from the Province, NEC vice chairperson Fatou Harerimana, thanked all who participated in the elections for the work and the concerted voluntary efforts to ensure a successful election.

"The strength, enthusiasm and engagement with the democratic process exhibited among residents are vital to sustaining a healthy democracy,” Harerimana said.
At least one sector from the five districts in the province was awarded. They included Muhoza, Gakenke, Murambi, Byumba and Cyeru.

"There was massive turn up of residents, calm atmosphere and order marked the presidential elections which we attribute to civic education. That is why we have come back to thank the people for the support they gave to NEC and their conduct,’’ said Charles Munyaneza, NEC Executive Secretary.

The provincial Governor, Aime Bosenibamwe, said that in making the right choice in elections, Rwandans will pursue democracy which responds to their challenges.

Residents of the Province also awarded a trophy to NEC in recognition for its good work in organizing the elections.
