HUYE - A truck driver and his turn boy have been admitted at Butare University Hospital (CHUB), after their vehicle lost control and overturned.
The truck was heading to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from Kenya. Hussein Habiyambere, the injured driver, said the accident took place at a sharp corner, urging authorities to put signs along the stretch, to warn drivers to slow down while approaching the area.
Habiyambere added that, this particular black spot has led to a number of accidents. "Foreign drivers are mostly the victims because they are not familiar with the sharp turn”, he said.
"There is need to increase the number of signs alongside this stretch for the sake of traffic safety. This new measure will curb any future incidences.”
Huye Police said the accident could have happened because the driver was not used to the road section. Police warned drivers against reckless driving, adding that serious measures to reduce road accidents have been instituted.
